Four named inmates were fairly rare. Calvin Douglas James Murray had a right to be proud – in this, if nothing else.

Some were held in the dungeon before hanging. Others were placed there as punishment. (Colley) King wintered there. Suffering a severe allergy to work, haystacks, hay barns and gardens, small game got him nicely through spring, summer and fall. A petty crime netting him 120 days with a warm room, a cot, and three meals got him through many winters. He died in the jail.

Hard to miss Janet. “Cindy Martin ‘84” was very likely a prison museum visitor.

This is one of a very few clusters of girlfriends names. Dan was much more imaginative in commemorating Kathy.

Ray Haynes. This is a felon’s cell. He seems to have started in a debtor’s cell, moved on up to this felon’s cell, and then did some time in the dungeon.

Many inmates did seem to have had fond memories of their (probably very short) stays.

The remains of one partial-year calendar with days served crossed off. It appears then that this type of cell wall decorating is not the brain child of a New Yorker cartoonist.

Dan showed both artistic talent and imagination in commemorating his fondness for Kathy. Two nearly identical drawings were among the other graffiti, and another, lacking as many points and without initials, may have been a prototype.
